In this guide, we’ll cover the basics, including choosing a class, understanding combat, managing resources, and exploring the world.
- Choosing a Class
- Five classes: Sorcerer, Barbarian, Rogue, Necromancer, and Druid
- Each class has a unique Skill Tree, Passive Mechanics, and Legendary effects
- Pick the class that excites you the most, and don’t worry about the details
- Resources
- Resources like Gold, Obols, and crafting materials are shared across all characters
- Rerolling a new character won’t cause you to lose resources
- Combat
- Six ability slots: 4 basic abilities, 1 Primary attack, and 1 Secondary attack
- Bindings will differ based on your platform
- When Health reaches 0, you die
- Use Healing Potion (Q key on PC) to restore Health
- Increase max potion charges by completing Renown in each zone
- Refill potion charges at Healers in Town, Healing Wells, or from enemy-dropped Orbs
- Bosses drop additional health orbs at designated segments
- Upgrades and Elixirs
- Evade
- Default Evade: Spacebar on PC
- Evade cooldown visible above abilities
- Modify Evade with gear for multiple charges or effects
- Town Portal
- Open a town portal to travel back to the main city
- Re-enter the portal to return to your original position, unless you leave town
- Damage Types
- Normal (white), Critical (yellow), Overpower (teal), and Critical Overpower (orange)
- Overpower: new mechanic based on current HP and Fortify amount
- Gear
- Drops in qualities from Normal to Legendary, Unique, and Ancestral
- Passive effects start from Legendary rarity
- Store effects in Codex of Power or extract at Occultist vendor in main cities
- Stats and Sockets
- View stats on your stats page from inventory
- Unique effects previewed on skill and item tooltips
- Sockets on items can hold gems for different stats
- Upgrade gems by combining duplicates
- Curiosity Vendor and Obols
- Obtain random gear from Curiosity Vendor in main cities
- Exchange Obols for gambled items with random rarity
- Obols primarily collected from Strongholds and World Events
- Salvaging and Transmog
- Sell or Salvage excess gear at a blacksmith for crafting materials
- Permanently collect Transmog appearances when items are salvaged
- Quest Types
- Gold: main campaign
- Blue: side quests
- Silver: character progression (always do these)
- World Events and Dungeons
- Orange icon or area on map: World Events
- Dungeons: various locations on the map; some have unique one-time rewards
- Spawn on a set schedule found online
- 10-minute countdown appears on world map icon
- Limited time and player count
- Player Mounts
- Unlocked through the campaign and accessed via Stable in town
- Not available during Open Beta
